The Pipeline Association for Public Awareness is committed to
the safety and emergency preparedness of first responders, workers and the
general public.
While pipelines are generally the safest methods of transporting
hazardous chemicals, they are not failsafe. Pipeline product releases, whether
in the form of slow leak or violent rupture, are a risk in any community. In the
unlikely event of an incident near or involving a pipeline, it is critical you
know how to respond and are prepared to work together with the pipeline
operator's representatives.
This training is intended to provide firefighters, law
enforcement officers, emergency medical technicians and all other emergency
responders who may be the first to arrive at the scene with the information
they need to safely handle a pipeline incident. This training is not intended to
provide information on the physical or chemical properties of the products
transported through the pipelines. Nor should it be considered a substitute for
emergency response training, knowledge or sound judgment. Rather, this training
contains information that will help you make decisions about how to best protect
your emergency response team, and the surrounding public during a pipeline
incident.
Please review this website and become familiar with the
components of the emergency response guidelines and other training available
before you are called to respond to a pipeline incident.
